These issues (along with a couple of other similar issues) are related to a patch released in April by Microsoft Corporation. The patch (which adds the binary verclsid.exe) along with certain HP software do not seem to work well together. Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-015 discusses the original security issue Microsoft was attempting to address. Microsoft Knowledge Base article 918165 discusses the workaround to repair the issues caused by the security update. Please note that the security bulletin was released on April 11th while the workaround was released on April 15th.
